A Lemmy Community to share links about and for amateur (ham) radio to advance the technology, and promote communication and international goodwill. This community IS NOT for CB, GMRS, MURS, FRS, etc topics unless they are related to ham radio in some way.
We won't tolerate personal insults, illegal activity, or anything contrary to good amateur practice.
If asking questions about regulations, please include your country because we recognize that, while the hobby is international, regulations often aren't.

I'm interested to learn more about your instance. It's been so depressing watching all my favorite subs slowly turn more and more political. Even subs like /r/science I had to leave because everything being posted was so blatantly opposing the other side. "Study shows that right-wing conservatives are more prone to impotence" or some ridiculous fuckin thing.
So glad that we are finally establishing a Reddit alternative. I just hate to see it so quickly turning into another shitshow. Sorry, that was kind of a tirade I went on! Anyway, yea I'm interested to know more about your instance!
I used lemmy-easy-deploy to get it installed on a vps I use. Then I just use that to connect to the other communities I'm interested in, and just those communities. It was pretty easy to get up and going if you are familiar with running a VPS.
You can also host it locally. I think there are instructions on the github for doing so. It just allows me to have a nice place to get all of my stuff instead of having logins at different places or worrying about an instance suddenly going down and taking my account with it.
I just block people locally that keep posting political bs, or constantly post crap about whatever is going on with the latest reddit drama in /c/technology It keeps my instance much cleaner.
