Really should happen to be honest, paired with a mandatory education class and requirement of a license. You already need a license to buy other substances such as cigarettes, alcohol, prescription medication, etc.

Just give the people what they want FFS.

I don't know why you're getting downvotes. An education class sounds like a good idea. Using psychedelics/dissociatives can be dangerous for first-timers. Better they be educated about the things they might experience on their first trip.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's because illegal substances have a negative connotation of them. It's ironic because they are not only physically safer than legal substances, but they are also both cheaper and have higher recreational value than them.

Also, if the masses started doing psychedelics, it would be the downfall of capitalism as everyone begins to realize that the world's governments and corporations are full of shit. Psychedelics really are the metaphorical third eye opener they are touted to be.

I don’t know man I microdosed acid for a while and realized I needed to get a job

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I didn't say anything about not working, though I don't really recommend doing any substances at all if you are not in a decent enough financial situation.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

having ambition is not something only capitalism can provide you with. You can you know, do things, in any system

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Except have a job. For that you need a capitalist to own the capital and pay you wages for your labor.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

no? jobs existed a bit before capitalism even crossed people's minds you know

[–] AutistoMephisto@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I dunno. One bad thought can ruin the whole trip. I will agree, however, that psychedelics could have value in psychology. Some people need a good ego death.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Theoretically yes, but that's only if you dwell on it the entire time. Removing attention from the thought or changing the immediate environment can help if not negate it entirely.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m all for educating people about psychedelics I just don’t want congress building that curriculum

[–] AutistoMephisto@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's fair. Honestly I think perhaps such curriculum is best left in the hands of whichever organization psychiatric doctors are in.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t think doctors should be building that curriculum either. I think people with knowledge of psychedelics should be building it. Trip sitters from Burning Man, shamans, deadheads, etc

[–] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Ideally a first timer would microdose natural psilocybin which IMHO poses virtually no danger long term physically or psychologically. A good method is to mix a little bit in with honey and have a spoonful. Its just enough to see if its something you are potentially into and want to explore more of. Harder stuff like LSD and DMT I can see needing classes or a lisence dont feel the same way about shrooms

[–] rambling_lunatic@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You need a license to buy cigs and alcohol?

[–] skyspydude1@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

OI MATE, YOU GOT A LOISENCE FOR THAT CIGGY?

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Aye, i got the lie sense to get one.

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well, in so much as you need to prove you're above a certain age.

The best way to do that (in the US) is with a driver's license.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lots of states issue IDs from the DMV with equivalent protection features as a driver's license, but isn't a license. Those are good enough.

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not the specific driver's license that matters. The point is that it's still an ID and still a control over who can get it.

[–] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You'd think people would get that point when you say license you just meant "they have to ID you when you buy them"

[–] zaph@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You already need a license to buy other substances such as cigarettes, alcohol, prescription medication, etc.

Where? You need an ID but not a license specifically where I'm from.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was referring specifically to the drivers license which is used in place of the standard ID.

[–] zaph@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Sure but the license isn't to purchase those products. There is no licensing for them even though you typically use your license to prove your age. You can also use a passport or military ID or a standard state ID that looks exactly like a license but requires no test. A liquor license is to sell, not purchase. And for the record, I like your ideas but using something like a medical card for purchasing weed would have been a better example.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I agree with the medical card as well, but I wouldn't have any issues with it being done recreationally, I just think that if it is done recreationally it should still have a license associated with it.
