This is the best summary I could come up with:

On the day he announced his candidacy in August, Mr Sriranganathan took to social media to ask his followers whether he should use the term "lord mayor" if he wins the job next March.

On March 3, 1930, the Telegraph declared that Brisbane would be "raised to the status of other state capitals" after King George V gave his approval for the lord mayoral title.

"We're focused on keeping rates low, tackling traffic congestion and helping deliver more housing – not tinkering around with titles," a spokesperson told ABC Radio Brisbane.

Cr Schrinner is running for re-election in the upcoming council poll in March, which will also be contested by Labor's Tracey Price and the Greens' Mr Sriranganathan.

"My priorities as mayor would be to focus on tangible, practical improvements to people's lives, particularly in terms of issues like housing, transport and sustainable development," he said.

When Brisbane was conferred the titled, The Telegraph noted at the time that the office holder could be addressed as "the right honourable, the lord mayor" or as "your right trusty and well beloved".
