Might be because browsers were pretty big entry points for homebrew/piracy on PS3/Vita?

I mean yeah, but there is still a browser in the PS5. It's a requirement for things like modern payment methods.

Once you have access to it, redirecting it to wherever you want to go isn't too hard to do, even without a URL bar. You can set up a local DNS server to take you where you want to go, no matter what URL the console is actually trying to access.

Meaning they've done basically nothing to close this exploit venue off.

No doubt. Sony is in a good place. It won't have an effect on them.
