The other community (!piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com) is mostly the old Reddit one. It's more active than this one.

The strength of federation is its decentralization. People can subscribe to both and follow both even if one takes the lead. If one community falls for whatever reason, there's the other one still standing.

true but the developer instance of lemmy would probably attract less trouble if it was on another instance
