Work with animals is a source of suffering to all of us. We treat them like babies who cannot speak. The more time passes, the more I'm sorry about it. We shouldn't have done it ... We did not learn enough from this mission to justify the death of the dog.

I disagree, Mr. Gazenko. The Soviet Union learned the incredibly valuable lesson that if you lock a dog in a hot box, it dies. Truly valuable science.

They also learned that living beings do not die from being weightless and the general conditions in space. This was not so clear at this time.
