Mastodon has gained 106,723 monthly active users since the end of March (when Elon bought 9.2% of Twitter's shares). 93,603 are new accounts. Overall that's a 42% increase in Mastodon's MAU. (mastodon.social)

I started to use Mastodon recently. I'm sorry if I sound grumpy, but... that's a hell of an awful user interface. Basic features seem to be missing. I wanted to collect some topics I'm interested in... and you can't do that. You have to type in the hashtag of your interest every single time. You can't mix multiple hashtags for an overview. Simply put: You can't follow hashtags. That's a feature that is discussion since more than 5 years. I honestly don't get it.

Of course you can pin and follow hastags in Mastodon.

  1. Search for a hashtag (e.g. #web in the search bar).
  2. Click on the hashtag (#web here, as an example).
  3. You will see a column #web open in the web interface at the far end.
  4. You can pin this hashtag column by clicking on the three settings leavers at the top of the hashtag column, then selecting Pin.

Thanks for the reply. I knew about that workaround. That's only works with the "advanced view", and the user interface for combining hashtags is atrocious. You always have to have one permanent column for that, so you maybe can make a few of them before your screen is overloaded horizontally.

It kinda works, but it's not a good solution.

It may be worth thinking about how/where could this be implemented in the simple interface... as a future improvement.
