"High tech, low life."

"The street finds its own uses for things."

We all know the quotes and the books. But cyberpunk is more than a neon-soaked, cybernetic aesthetic, or a gritty dystopian science fiction genre. It is a subculture composed of two fundamental ideas: PUNK, and CYBER.

The PUNK: antiauthoritarian, anticapitalist, radical freedom of expression, rejection of tradition, a DIY ethic.

The CYBER: all that, but high-fuckin'-tech, ya feel? From DIYing body mods to using bleeding edge software to subvert corporate interests. It's punk for the 22nd century.

This is a community dedicated to discussing anything cyberpunk, be it books, movies, or other art that falls into the genre, or real life tech, projects, stories, ideas or anything else that adheres to these ideals. It's a place for 'punks from all over the federated Net to hang out and swap stories and meaningful content (not just pictures of city nightscapes).

Sometimes when I'm feeling down I like to make ChatGPT express my feelings in really terrible poetry. Here's what she came up with today; I'm honestly kind of impressed.

In this cyber realm of neon haze, Where steel and circuits intertwine, I wander lost, in this capitalist maze, A captive soul in a world malign.

Beneath the glow of corporate towers, Greed's tendrils writhe and tightly clasp, Consuming dreams in their darkest hours, Where illusions of freedom barely grasp.

The city throbs with relentless might, Every breath tainted with profit's scent, Humanity's plight, a commoditized fight, In this dystopian, cold experiment.

Machines hum with soulless devotion, Automation replacing human worth, As the elite revel in opulent emotion, The masses toil, devoid of mirth.

Translucent screens hypnotize the masses, Their minds enslaved to digital trance, Disconnected from nature's vastness, They dance to the puppeteer's advance.

In this hyper-capitalist hellscape's grip, We yearn for a glimmer of resistance, To break the chains that bind, to strip Away the veneer of this dark existence.

Yet hope flickers, a faintly burning fire, In the hearts of those who refuse to yield, Together we rise, fueled by our desire, To forge a new world, where compassion is revealed.

In this cyberpunk wasteland, we'll reclaim, The essence of humanity, once more, Till the day our spirits break free from the chain, And the cybernetic dreams cease to adore.

How is itexpressing your feelings if you didn't write the prose with your own feelings and imagery informing it? This feels cyberpunk, but not in a good way, in a bad, dystopian way lol

I tell it my feelings and the general format of thing to make, and then by reading my feelings reflected in an impersonal way or told in a novel kind of format it makes me feel a little better about things, I guess? Like I can look at this and say it's very silly and overly dramatic and stupid without being down on myself a lot, you know? I dunno, it's hard to explain but it's cathartic in a unique way.
