The Israeli military said on Sunday it would continue to allow Gazans to evacuate south ahead of an expected ground assault by its forces on the Gaza Strip in retaliation for unprecedented attacks by Hamas militants eight days ago.

The army said hundreds of thousands had already moved south as Israel carried out the most intense bombardment the enclave has ever seen in response to the killing of 1,300 people in Israel, including 279 Israeli soldiers.

Authorities in Gaza said more than 2,300 people had been killed, a quarter of them children, and nearly 10,000 wounded so far. The enclave's hospitals are running short of medical supplies and struggling to cope with the flow of injured.

Do we expect Israel to give the land back when they have finished flattening it and driving everyone out?

Unfortunately, this is not what you think.

US military buildup says something is up. Also, UK sent their military too so I’m expecting Iraq level invasion / war.

To me, we’re living in the same situation when hitler accused Poland.

It seems like a lose lose all around. Violence leads to more violence.

It's not just violence that leads to violence. Oppression and inequality also.

I hope you mean that violence leads to opression and inequality and not the other way around. not that it can't be the other way around but that's not how it started in this case.

They did give it back in 2005, 2008 and 2014 but there’s no way to know this time. Israel and the Israeli feel like they’ve been through the most horrible days since the 40’s

It's a complex situation. Israel needs to excert a cost on their enemies to dissuade them from trying again. but there is no justification for taking it. they might create a perimeter around the border effectively shrinking the habitable area for "security reasons"
