World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Gettin real sick of the forum sliding into "but America bad too" every time there's a post about China doing shady shit on here.
EDIT: Two days after making this comment I'm still getting replies from Chinese propaganda trolls lol. Making it easy to add to my block list I guess.
Bad propaganda troll
I mean, it's relevant to the article. It's not "but America" when "US" is the beginning of the headline... ?? 🤨
I'm not saying that the US State Dept report is false, but it also absolutely would not be the first time the state department has put out a false report. And they intentionally release reports - true or false - in a concerted effort to shape information and public opinion.
America absolutely spends countless taxpayer dollars on propaganda, and CNN, which is part of a multi-billion-dollar corporation that serves the interests of shareholders, advertisers, and lawmakers is absolutely part of that propaganda machine.
Again, not saying China is the good guy or that we should take their word here. But the US also isn't the good guy, and I think we should take State Dept. press releases with a grain of salt.
The comment you replied to was perfectly relevant and accurate, and was just someone making a quip about US propaganda efforts.
But apparently a Canadian knows better, so keep telling us about how US propaganda isn't relevant in world politics, thanks.
Cool.
I'm getting sick of idiots chastising China for what the US does.
Guess we both have to deal with it, huh?
But you don't get sick of the endless "China bad" articles, huh?
Lol endless? I maybe see a few posts a week about China while the majority of my feed is American politics and American tech ragebait articles. And I never see people like you on those posts saying "wEll wHaT aBoUt ChInA!!1!".
Probably because the American political articles are highly specific about American issues (e.g. abortion, debt ceiling, guns, etc). Meanwhile articles like these are all about bashing China for doing what the US does even harder.
No, china is endlessly bad. If you think otherwise youre dumb and should just move to a tofudreg highrise in china.

"It's only bad when china does it." - you
It happened once somewhere else, so it's not a problem that its a real problem in china - you
I never said it wasn't a problem in China.
It's a problem anywhere it happens, that's where you and I diverge.
Hence my original point of: "It's only bad when China does it" -you
No, it's bad and a Chinathing because in China it is common enough to have it's own neologism.
It is common. It is widespread. It is being censored by the CCP.
The US doesnt ban articles talking about highrises collapsing because of corruption.
Does China ban articles about highrises collapsing?
Can you provide any source for this?
I was referring to the highrises collapsing at all. As in, their maintenance was allowed to slack off to the point the building collapsed... while people were in it.

One of many sources for tofudreg censorship.
Hilarious. I joined lemmy because of the thousands of anti China posts all over reddit. So obviously state department influenced.
And I'm guessing you joined lemmy.world because hexbear kept getting defederated? Go back there
This is the kind of one-sided, idiotic comment that leads to stifling of actual discussion of geopolitical issues like this, where different perspectives are much needed in this hyper-radicalized landscape.
You are directly contributing to the kind of radicalism that you so despise, because you react to a comment based on emotion and pre-judgement, rather than actually thinking critically about what is being said and responding with helpful criticism or perspective. Fucking hypocrite, shame on you.
What is hexbear? I've seen it mentioned but nice try assuming about me. You made an ass out of yourself.
Haha I made an ass of myself? K
Yeah, you did.
That's what happens when you assume. I'm new here I don't know what hexbear is, I googled it and it's another instance? Sure I'll go check it out I guess
🤡
When you can't come up with a coherent thought
The people are split on your comment... Have fun watching CNN uncritically.
It's absurd. The article is literally about US and Chinese propaganda, and a comment making a quip about US propaganda gets downvoted and called irrelevant.
Yuuup, nobody sipping propaganda here. And get called a tankie for wanting more rational thought and actual discussion than "China bad".
Pretty clear the bots from r/worldnews have set up shop here as well
Unfortunately those rats have set up base here too. If it's one thing the US is good at, it's at setting up bases everywhere.
Yeah I believe it. It's nice they can't ban me though. r/worldnews banned me seconds after I pointed out the top three articles of the day were from Radio Free Asia.
