Help!?
What on earth do you get a 12 year old girl you don't know well for a birthday present? She isn't close to my son and he's totally clueless as to her likes and interests.
Edit: Thanks so much everyone, I went from having no idea what a girl gets for a birthday to debating options with my son. I was set to get her the beads, even had them in my hand and he was certain that she wouldn't like them - instead she'd like a basketball. Which is what we ended up getting. I'm saving this thread though, there are more 12 year old parties on the horizon. I need to investigate Typo. It sounds like it fills the hole left from growing out of Smiggle.
gift card
Yeah, it's not plan A. I hate them because they show zero thought or effort. Still, I'd fall back here rather than getting something I don't think she'd like.
Nah the girl will love being and to go out and spend it. It's not really thoughtless, better than a gift the girl won't even like. She'll get excited about going out to buy something she actually does.
No seriously Nath. I spoke to my daughter and she assures me all her friends younger sisters love gift cards. Typo, Cotton on, K mart. If she has a device iTunes, Spotify if she doesn't already have Spotify Premium.
If I were a kid I'd love a gift card to get whatever I want rather than a potentially useless thing - and have autonomy! It's the next best thing to money. I think it's adults where gift cards start to seem a bit of a lazy option
Beads. Every 12 year girl I know (quite a few) loves making bracelets etc out of beads. There are kits at Spotlight & similar places.
I like this idea. Nearest Spotlight is far, though. I don't really have that kind of time. I have Kmart and Target, I might try there.

A small gift pack from the Body Shop? That seems to be a safe default
Frank Green water bottle
Elite11 or White Fox hoodie
Typo is a treasure trove as well (stationary is good)
MCO beauty lip gloss (Woolys stocks that)
tix to Taylor Swift Eras tour movie
Some of these ideas are great! I am clearly out of touch, having never heard of your first three ideas. $60 for a water bottle? Is this like Gucci for teenagers or something?
Sorry mate. Yeah the water bottle is a thing and I was just throwing out ideas without consideration of finances. Maybe something from Typo next time?
Oh the water bottle is a certain possibility for closer friends. They're starting high school in a few months and I remember stuff like this being a status symbol in that environment. In my day it was shoes (Reebok pumps and then later, Air Jordan's).
Cash. Remember how awesome it was scoring a $20 in a card?
