Or is there something I just don’t understand? For example this post only seems to show on lemmy.world. Posts in the other direction seems to travel fine.

Hmmm, I think it's just taking a long time for the posts to come over (and IDK about the subscribe). I see some threads have posts now, but not all of them. The trick you mentioned didn't work for me.
