Customers complained? What kind of asshole would complain about someone wanting to keep themselves, and others around them, safe?
It also seems absurd that's no law in Canada protecting people who want to wear additional PPE at work. We know how awful worker safety and protection is in the workplace, and it should be a human right to allow people the ability to use additional PPE beyond what the employer provides (nothing, in this case).
I see you’re new.
You’d be amazed at the stupid shit people complain about.
Can confirm from working in retail for 6+ years. Not only is it astounding, but additionally depressing because they are also people who are voting, driving etc.
That shit keeps you awake at night sometimes.
Not even amazed, but third-party embarrassed for these people.
What's the complaint even about? I feel like it's a younger sibling of racists who "complain" about people wearing turbans for no reason other than that they are racist.
I would bet that you’re mostly right….
I think it’s people that have an emotional need that they can’t admit is emotional…
“I don’t like wearing masks, it makes me sad/uncomfortable”
And admitting that shows emotions and vulnerability. Can’t be vulnerable! I also don’t want to be the only person not wearing masks because then I’ll feel guilty and other feelings. Can’t be vulnerable!!!!!!
So they have to try and make up bullshite to try and make it SEEM logical. So they invent logic to rationalize it.
But it’s stupid because it’s a valid emotion that needs to be dealt with emotionally, but they don’t want to be talked to as if they’re being emotional….
In this case, I'd bet the complainants bought into the nonsense US politicization of PPE, rather than whatever they claimed was the problem. (A Deaf person who was attempting to lip-read might have reasonable grounds for complaining about opaque facemasks, but not all facemasks.)
The same people who got mad about other people wearing masks during COVID.
You know, morons.
I'm afraid I do.
In BC, they mandated that you must wear the hospital provided surgical mask (or whatever it was that was similar). You weren't allowed to bring your own n95 or better mask and they would make you remove it to enter.
Pretty bonkers.
Even a poor fitting n95 would be better than a surgical mask with gaps everywhere
Edit: to clarify that was for visitors. .
Congrats on never having to work a customer facing job I guess?
I worked retail for years... 20+ years ago. Never heard of customers complaining about staff, and certainly not for anything petty. We would have had a laugh with the manager if that happened.
If anything, I've only ever heard of restaurant patrons complaining about the lack of PPE, not the use of them!
Yeah, it's possible things have changed then.
