This is a place to motivate each other to control or stop drinking. It is also a place for non drinkers to discuss and share.

We welcome anyone who wishes to join in by asking for advice, sharing our experiences and stories, or just encouraging someone who is trying to quit or cut down.

Please post only when sober; you’re welcome to read in the meanwhile.

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to c/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!

Way to go on making the decision to prioritize your health! I'll only speak to my experiences since I firmly believe that everyone's journey is there's alone. There are certainly folks who subscribe to the "California sober" philosophy, but it doesn't work for me. I used alcohol as a way to numb the negative experiences in my life and escape. It didn't help me solve the challenges I was facing and it made them more difficult to navigate. I was avoiding confronting things that required my attention. For me, any other similar substance would just be trading one vice for another. I've been working to incorporate positive coping mechanisms for stress and exploring other activities that bring me joy. YMMV, but that's my $0.02.
