They recently announced they'd be doing this for people with history turned off.

I subscribe to most channels I enjoy but still appreciate the recommendations as I find a lot of new videos/channels of interest without having to wade through a bunch of low quality/uninteresting content. It's felt pretty stale lately but at least I'm not getting a bunch of right wing propaganda these days.
