tl;dr: No matter how democratic you are, don't ever vote religious extremists backed by corporates to power. They'll fuck you up.

Today is the 106th day of the ethnic and communal genocidal violence in Manipur, India. Peace and safety have not returned to the land. The Union and state govts have abdicated their responsibilities, the Supreme Court asks questions on the the situation and then buys whatever dishwater the AG serves them. The end result is a shambles in Manipur. It's as if the lives of the Indian citizens of Manipur do not matter at all to anyone in power.

The violence has morphed into a civil war, with the state of Manipur split into Meitei-controlled valley and Kuki-controlled hills. Everyone in the state is on the edge, and rather then solve the situation, Biren Singh, its Chief Minister is trying to create a Naga-Kuki conflict in the state.

https://ukhrultimes.com/is-the-manipur-government-orchestrating-another-kuki-naga-conflict/

Central forces like the CRPF & Assam Rifles have created a buffer zone between the two to control the violence. Bombs attacks, raids, gun violence is being carried out on both communities by the other and the response is more violence. Morgues are full of corpses that lie unclaimed because its unsafe for people to go & claim their dead.

The Meitei-majority state govt is openly partisan to the Meitei and the Chief Minister Biren Singh is indifferent at best and actively against Kukis at worst, both in speech and in action. He also refuses to take any responsibility for his inability to end the violence, yet he remains the Chief Minister.

Manipur's Meitei-majority police & commando forces and women-led Meira Paibis have handed over Kuki women to be raped and killed to Meitei mobs. These mobs led by the Hindu supremacist Meitei Leepun whose leader Pramot Singh is a close associate of the Biren Singh, and the Christian-hating black-shirted Arambai Tenggol whose leader is a member of the BJP, Prime Ministe Modi's political party, and member of Parliament and again a close associate of the CM Biren Singh. The Manipur police have also reportedly allowed their armouries to be raided and some 5000 high-powered rifes and 600,000 rounds of ammo have been stolen.

The govt. of India is unwilling to stop the violence, and people in Manipur have their suspicions that the violence that ome are participants of and all are victims of has been engineered.

If 10 years ago, I'd been told that within 10 years Indian democracy would be dead and we'd would witness a civil war in one its states, I'd have laughed. But this is what the Hindu supremacist and corporate-backed Modi has done with the power given to him.
