After all the hype about Nolan doing a nuclear explosion with practical effects, this was kind of a let down. But I guess that's on me. I should have realised from the start that it was probably a very simple trick (disclaimer, I've not seen the movie, so I was just going by what was being described). It's easy to forget that film makers spent decades doing movies without CGI, and came up with all sorts of brilliantly clever ways of doing special effects.
Interesting take considering not having seen the movie.
