Is it possible to block entire instances? I see I can block by user or community, but not by instance.

This would be useful as there are some instances based around politics etc. that I don't care about.

I hear that you can if you host your own instance but that seems kinda technical.

Selfhosted is going to get a lot easier as we get more managed host providers (they set up everything for you, give you the keys to the kingdom, and provide tech support as you grow). Elast.io and SpaceHost are two that I've seen advertised already.
