Kink.com is a strong fetish site that itself tells people under 18 not to visit.
I think gender queer is an important book for people questioning their sexuality and gender, but some of the material is too adult for someone 12 years old. Talking about strap ons isn’t going to be productive with a 12 year old. There are probably better titles for dealing with gender at that age.
I also still don’t see how Vonnegut is a “children’s” book. Most libraries subdivide under 18 material into preschool/children’s/tween/young adult. Articles like this need to be more careful about terminology if they are including 17 and 18 year olds.
It’s literally titled Slaughterhouse-Five, Or the Children’s Crusade. /s
In seriousness, I started reading Vonnegut at 11-12 years old. It’s not Dr Seuss but preteens can definitely read it.
I haven't read Vonnegut but I had a "college reading level" by 7 and when I went to GATE there were plenty of kids like me. Obviously kids will get older and things will have a richer context but they can definitely read and parse this stuff.
