Submissions on tolling the replacement gorge road have now closed, but Woodville residents are refusing to give up fighting.

Under the current proposal, those driving between Palmerston North and Woodville in a light vehicle could pay $4.30 per trip, $8.60 for a return - and up to $17.20 for heavy vehicles.

The former State Highway 3 through the Manawatū Gorge closed in 2017 due to rockfall.

Yeah I guess there is "we're gonna use toll roads" and then there is "we're gonna take a project replacing an existing road, which is almost complete, and then we're gonna tell all the people that have been waiting 10 years or more for it that they are gonna have to pay $4+ each direction to go to their job in Palmy each day to save the 15 mins added to the trip by the temporary solution put in place in a hurry in 2012" or whenever the first landslide was that closed the gorge for a few years.

Yup. Although the Green party did talk about tolling transmission gully a few years ago, and got shut down fast.
