Bats are cool

Bats are the only true flying mammals. There are over 1,400 species of bats, and they can be found on nearly every part of the planet. Not only are they cute, they are also important...

Studying how bats use echolocation has helped scientists develop navigational aids for the blind. Without bats’ pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control we wouldn’t have bananas, avocados, mangoes, agave, or cacao… that’s right, bats bring us tequila and chocolate!

Bats are awesome!
Recently read a post by some biologist, who was wondering how bats avoid crashing into each other, when they all leave or return to their narrow caves at the same time. He speculated that they must use their echolocation to evade other bats.
But his sound recordings didn't match his theory. So he set up a high speed camera at a bat cave entrance to film them.

SpoilerThey crash into each other all the time.

You can hear bats running into each other while leaving a cave. It's not super loud, I only noticed it after cupping my hands on my ears.

They really are sky pups.
