How come there is no good aussie budget cooking folks on youtube? are our grocery prices just making that stuff redundant. I know americans eat like shit, but there is some real bargains in their grocery stores.

Is "Nat's what I Reckon" not budget enough?

He puts milk in his bolognese which makes me cry.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I do that too. Light milk though so it's basically water.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

No. Use the pasta water instead 😠

I think everytime I do something italian, half of italy would faint and all the nonnas would be sharpening their wooden spoons.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

when I'm busy I'll just chuck a spoon of powdered milk in.

Milk in bolognaise? Ewww sacrilege!

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Havnt seen much of their stuff, but unless they are legit robbing a coles or aldi I dont see how it can be much cheaper than what i'm already doing.

I don't know about his food, but you need to get past Nat talking like a kid who just learnt what swear words are

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah that’s probs a deal breaker. There’s an Aussie drain guy I’d love to watch but just can’t get past the forced Aussie accent. I grew up in the country, I hate the fake shit haha.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nat is a lot like that. It's like he's playing up the Australian trope of swearing a lot. I'm fine with swearing, even as much as he does, but you take it out and there are no other jokes there

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago

oh yeah hard no then.

The One Pot Chef does cheap and easy meals.

Americans eat really well, some Americans, but not everyone cooks because not everyone has the ability or the time and energy.

Home brands are very cheap there and good quality. The basics are so cheap too. It's all about choice.

What we hear in Australia is the American middle class looking down on the good basics. ( it's so classist there ) And there is a tendency to diss America in the press here too.

I ate like a king in America.

that pink grapefruit juice is so yum, I totes miss half and half, jalapeno jack and Wholefoods homebrands. omg, and the peaches from down south 😭 avocados from mexico really do taste better.

The food here is expensive. I don't know why.

I think thats it, their pantry stuffers are so much cheaper, more varied and give a lot more basic meal options.

JalapeΓ±o Jack can be found at Colonial fruit and veg, if you are so inclined. It’s one of my favourite cheese.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Cool. It's the best for with mexican food and to make nachos πŸ™‚πŸ˜‹
