I'm thinking I put an old laptop to use as a media player before forking out for an old PC to be dedicated to the job. I want to use it as is initially, but Windows is really making me want to just wipe the whole thing and just put Debian on it for this project.

This laptop was my daily driver for a couple of years so I kind of want to keep it as is for a little while if possible, but I could just scrape everything off it and format it if that's what things come to

My old shitty Asus laptop used to be dual partitioned with Ubuntu + windows, because it was my only computer with a webcam, but now that I've upgraded, I'm considering wiping it and running some lightweight Linux distribution, and using it just for TubeArchivist and a couple of other docker images.

The old MacBook runs fairly sluggishly these days, but it's still good for basic schoolwork and I primarily use it for running UNIX based scripts and such, since I still don't know how to use WSL. Ansible and WM-SPN nainly

I was going to do this with the kids' laptop until the internet connection became too unstable.

I'd like to learn Docker and even Kubernetes on top of that. Having a computer I'm using for something specific will help with that a lot.

And fuck Microsoft for only allowing remote desktop on enterprise versions of windows. I want to set up a remote connection so I can leave this laptop behind the TV and not need to touch it unless absolutely necessary. Any version of linux would let me do so

MAS has a change windows edition feature, which I believe also lists the enterprise editions. I'm not sure if it works, or if there's any catches, but I used it to upgrade from normal windows to pro and it worked well

Also has IoT enterprise and education edition

I heard it's easy to change versions and even get free copies of windows. I ran this other tool I read about that I think edits the DLL files and just turns it on. If that doesn't workI'll try this

I've only ever used MAS because it's a fairly simple single PowerShell script, it works for activating office as well, which is nice. I wish I could actually buy a copy of modern office, without any of the annoying subscription BS

I bought an nvidia shield 4k a while ago and it beats my old laptop hands down.

Android box, runs plex and kodi and connects to smb shares.

Decodes 4k mk4 perfectly with Dolby digital.

Well worth the price.

I have a shield as well and I guess I haven't been completely happy with it. You're limited to what's in the app store, it's hard to download things because it doesn't have a browser, and I mapped it to my computer as a network drive but it keeps disconnecting
