I realized that the kitchen was running out of lemon and lime after frying some tofu, so I ended up mixing the shrimp paste sauce with balsamic vinegar as the substitution.

Pros:

• Sour and slightly sweet
• Lasting longer than the fruits

Cons:

• Lacking the freshness of citrus
• Distracting flavor

I'd rate it 5/11, works but not worth trying.

It's a whip scorpion -- harmlessly sprays acid at you when annoyed.

Ok, admittedly that sounds way more alarming than it actually is. The acid is sort of like strong vinegar. They're sometimes called 'vinegaroons', and don't have a poisonous sting.

Ok, it's taking longer than we'd like... but at least it's not like in the photo anymore!
