My buddy and I were discussing the allowed blood alcohol content for driving (purely hypothetically) and how it varies across countries and then we stumbled upon the question in the title. Would be curious to hear if you guys know any good examples.

Today, noyb has filed a complaint and report against the German credit agency SCHUFA with the Hessian data protection authority. The company appears to be making millions of euros by selling people in Germany their own data. With the help of manipulative designs, people are prevented from obtaining a free copy of their data in accordance with Article 15 GDPR – even though they would actually be legally entitled to it. The company’s primary aim appears to be to profit from people looking for accommodation. In Germany, they often have to provide proof of solvency in order to obtain a lease.

The part that might be interesting for people:

Concealed rights. On its own website, SCHUFA only advertises its so-called “BonitätsAuskunft” for €29.95 to private individuals and claims that it offers an “advantage on the housing market”. A transparent reference to the Article 15 GDPR right to free information is not provided. Using manipulative designs, the company is trying to push the sale of paid products and even falsely presents the free information as unsuitable for submission to third parties.

Martin Baumann, data protection lawyer at noyb: “SCHUFA is falsely claiming that only its paid products can be presented to third parties. In reality, the European Court of Justice has emphasised several times that data subjects are allowed to do whatever they want with their free information."

Obviously a 10/10 but I'd be interested in your thoughts? 🤔

Native german speaker here. I have been wondering how difficult it is to learn and understand compound words in German. Also, do you yourself make up your own when needed?

I was reading this article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and saw this quote:

Diesen Freitag verabschiedet der Bundestag ein neues Staatsangehörigkeitsrecht, es soll die Einbürgerung erleichtern. Statt nach acht Jahren können Einwanderer künftig nach fünf Jahren einbürgern, bei besonderen Leistungen schon nach drei. Auch der Doppelpass wird erlaubt, nach jahrzehntelangem Kampf. Wer dauerhaft bleibt und sich anstrengt, soll das volle Wahlrecht bekommen und dazugehören. Das ist der Plan.

I've already passed my Citizenship Exam and am ready to go!

Is there a special place you are supposed to take it? Or just put it near a dumpster?

Hi Feddit!

for my school project/internship I have to contact German Kiosk's/Späti's/Spätverkauf/Nachtladen. I did some googling without much success. Does anyone know of a large group on, for example: Facebook, Telegram, Whatsapp etc. where I can find the shop owners of the Kiosk's/Späti's/Spätverkauf/Nachtladen? Thank you in advance!

Hallo Feddit!

Now that the temperature outside has dropped, the windows start to accumulate water vapor. I am assuming that it might also lead to that black stuff forming. Is there a more efficient way of dealing with the condensate than wiping it dry every day?

Hallo aus England.

Being Germans I assume you all listen to Rammstein on repeat so I wanted to ask:

What's your favourite Rammstein song and why the fuck are you letting this community die and returning to Reddit?

Fucking treacherous Kraut cunts. Anyway, Rammstein song?

Excerpt:

The news pouring out of Gaza through an unremitting barrage of videos, voice notes, UN statements, and statistics in recent days, are — Israeli genocide and Holocaust researcher Raz Segal writes — “a textbook case of genocide unfolding in front of our eyes.” Palestinians both inside and outside of Gaza have desperately tried to raise awareness of Israel’s “genocidal campaign” for days. Almost eight hundred scholars and practitioners of international law, conflict studies, and genocide studies have signed a letter warning of the possibility of a genocide in Gaza.

Hello, I've been trying for a while to find peanut butter in larger quantities (> 500g). Doesn't seem to be too common sadly. Any advice on this? I'm in Würzburg btw.

I have graduated from a university in Germany and found a great job that matches my degree. With this work contract, I have applied for a residence permit for employment. My documents were accepted and I have received a Fiktionsbescheinigung (my student residence permit is no longer valid).

Today I was informed that my employer is facing bankruptcy and the majority of the employees, including me, were let go. I was also told that I am entitled for severance pay if I apply at the Arbeitsamt.

What does that mean for my residence permit? Will it still be processed to the end or is my application no longer valid? Should I apply for the severance pay? I understand that I need to look for a new job immediately, since I don't have any other "proof of being able to secure my livelihood". Is it best to call the ABH directly and tell them about the layoff or wait to get a residence permit?

I'm planning a week-long stay in Hamburg next year. I want to come with my dog. I know the rules with pet passport, rabies vaccination etc, but I also found something about a Hamburg Dog Registry and couldn't really tell the registration and insurance rules also apply to tourists traveling with dogs?

Sausages are a staple of German street food, and yet most places serve sausages in a round "semmel" bun. But the sausages are long (duh) so they just beg for a longer bun. Why do you think hot-dog-style buns aren't more popular?
