Is the “heat collection system” just barrels of water or something more complex? I know water can hold onto a lot of heat.

I mean, the dude doesn’t have the power to do anything yet. So it is pretty timely given that we have a full four months to campaign on it and maybe get the power to implement the things.

Margaret Killjoy is just a joy to read. Her hook for this article, an anecdote about arguing with a pedant on the train, is just such a good way to introduce the article.

The US at least already has enough nuclear to handle base loads when solar and wind are unavailable. Nukes in some contexts are needed, but I believe we have 30% or so nukes in the US. Diverting resources to new nukes is a waste when we could be making carbon fuels unprofitable soon by investing in solar and wind.

The problem is that none of these designs have ever been used to power the grid. Every nuclear project in the recent past has blown by cost and time estimates. Wind and solar are not only cheaper than nukes, they can also be installed much quicker and predictably. Nukes have a place, but we need clean energy now.

Right? Just off the top of my head, I listen to podcasts on the Channel Zero Network of Anarchist Podcasts. Started at Margaret Killjoys “Live the the world is dying” and now, due to ads on the network for other shows, I listen to about a half dozen shows on the network religiously. That seems like an organization that is trying to grow, and doing it successfully.

When it comes to this ecocide, I’m not entirely opposed to mob justice for these fuckers (oil and gas executives and the fuckers who promoted their lies).

The shitty thing about this is that the businesses will probably be fine. This sort of heat causes chronic dehydration which won’t kill their workers immediately.

But it will kill them through destroying their kidneys and the like. But I’m sure these psychopaths will think they will just be able to hire some other poor person to fill the spot.

His early death was an unbelievable loss.

Debt and The Dawn of Everything are amazing books.

His argument here resonates with me viscerally. I was a milquetoast liberal at the start of the Obama era but progressively got more radical as nothing changed for the better. The Trump years, and especially Biden’s term has turned me into a self identifying anarchist.

I still vote, because I see the Republicans as so much worse the the dems. But I see that as harm mitigation and not actually something they will result in positive change. I focus on helping my community become more resilient.

I don’t know who this is, but good journalists don’t really need to be experts in the field they are covering. This is a very rare thing, but it happens.

For instance, the people at the podcast ScienceVs cover many things very well. I don’t think the host even has an advanced degree. There is at least one PhD on staff.
