Background : A month ago, Prof. Kham Khan Suan Hausing gave an interview to Karan Thapar on the Wire about the ethnic and communal genocide in Manipur.

For giving his considered opinion and to scare others from doing so, a criminal complaint has been filed against him under the following sections:

section 153A (which deals with promoting enmity between different groups),
295A (which deals with acts outraging religious feelings),
505(1) (statements conducting public mischief),
298 (deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of any person),
120B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code (IPC)

and he, a Kuki, has been ordered to present himself at a district court in Tmphal . This is at a time when violence still continues and Imphal is unsafe for Kukis.
