Is it possibly pesticides provided by a giant American or European company?

What else could it be? Maybe Indian or Chinese companies but definitely some assholes dumping profitable poisons in poorer regions.
Possibly, but if its European or US stuff they definitely use way to much and without protection, this isn't happening here.
Another option is that the GMO food they grow is not perfect, as there was a study that showed similar effects on cows feed with such food. GMO is a great way to feed the world, but the safety is a problem, you can't really test it until humans have side effects.
Btw, i think its rather Chinese pesticides as they are basically uncontrolled.
It's not unheard of, that Western companies sell products they can't legally sell in the West to poorer countries and/or the farmers get no or too little information about the health effects. Don't forget that many of them are just small time farmers without that much formal education. If they get told, the pesticide is fine, they might believe it.
