JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I STARTED SMELLING THAT SMELL AND CHECKED AND THERE WAS A DEAD RAT UNDER MY BED UGGGHHH
God knows when it got there but a) I only just started smelling That Smell an hour back (and I crashed for a couple of hours this afternoon) and b) I'm pretty sure it wasn't there yesterday because I hauled the old suitcase out from under the other side of the bed to take to the op shop and I didn't spot anything.
But ugggghhhhhh.

According to the other DT, lemondrop__ is getting married today. Woo for her. Boo for her demons.

πŸ˜– Zooks decided because I woke up early yesterday that 3:30 is now wake up time and head-butted me awake.
Admittedly she woke me out of one of those annoying dreams, but still.

Someone likes to run across my legs for no reason at about 4am.

Admittedly I was dreaming about being assassinated, so no harm done.

Couldn't sleep so I took off from Albury at 5:30. Just got home when my alarm was due to go off.

I was fine until maybe 45 minutes out and my eyes started getting a little stingy but I pushed through and everything is a-o-k.

Actually pretty glad to have avoided the "coming home from a long weekend" Hume Hwy crowd. It was a quiet and good run.

T minus 12 minutes to find out if the kid did a good job of dyeing my hair. Ok let's face it I don't really care as long as it's not patchy.

Update: It looks good. Just need to see it in daylight now.

[–] calhoon2005@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I dyed my own hair (when I had hair....😳) once whilst camping in a national park, used a whole can of sun-in. I didn't go into town for about a week, and when I did, I legit did a spit-take when I saw my reflection in a shopfront window. On reflection, I didn't need the whole can.

I've gotta go and buy a dress today. Looking on line and I discovered I'm more picky about clothing than I am about food. I don't want black, prints, lace, too much polyester, bright colours. I don't want to look like a bridesmaid or someone who came from the set of The Handmaids Tale. I like jumpsuits but don't wanna get half naked just to have a piss.

I need something I can wear with my ankle boots because I don't wear scrappy shoes. And I'm gonna need a handbag. I'll probably come out with 3 handbags and no outfit. Pray for me.

The man needs a shirt and he doesn't give a shit what colour it is. Urgh.

I don't want to sound dramatic, but I'm a man, and I have a cold. Now, we all know that means I'm dying a slow, painful death.

No one has ever felt this bad in the history of humanity lol

Woe is me 🀧

Nup, today was not as good as yesterday. Bad sleep, got some shit done but starting to feel some kind of second wave of Bleah coming on. Just like the last time I got covid... I'll do a test tonight (although a negative doesn't mean it isn't something else).

Swear to god I'll cry if I feel sick tomorrow morning. I will not go in sick but it suuuucks to miss another day of pay (doubt they'd let me take my first day off on sick leave)

Nice things for today though:

positivity!!!1 ✨

  • GLORIOUS sun
  • scored a $2 bacopa at Bunnings
  • stocked up on Bonsoy at $3.90 this week
  • cheap fennel bulbs πŸ˜‹
  • found my beetroot seeds
  • my new daily planner is here!!! Designed for scattered minds - undated, has a "most important things" sublist, and a "brain dump" page every 7 days for planning out the week. Can't wait to use this on Monday!

Time to do gardening pt 2 real quick now that the sun is off my plants, then get into the kitchen. Think I can only make the arroz verde and then I'm done.

My lymph node is swollen, wtf. Am I going to die??

Had some friends come over. Because of where I live it doesn't happen as often as I'd like, but it's really nice to have some more humans to talk to lol

@Seagoon_ @melbourne Ugh. It's Monday tomorrow. Why do weekends have to be so short? πŸ˜”

There's a huge workload to get through, and I'm stressing about it already.

On the upside, I'm taking Thursday and Friday off.

And there's a concert that wifey and I are going to on Tuesday night 😊

I gave her the tickets for Valentine's Day. I haven't been to a concert since the pandemic.

Also, I have a song by HER stuck in my head: https://youtu.be/_iKxR-daLCo?si=X7mcQHhCZHoN2UWn

Marches and protests without a specific, achievable demand.

End violence against women. I agree and think it's a good a idea but taking to the streets probably isn't going to convince wife bashers. It's also a very general demand that doesn't point to any specific government policy response. And I noticed that Jacinta Allen was in the crowd anyway so....

This feels similar to Palestine protests in Australia. Israel and the American government which essentially props up their military do not give a fuck. Protesting in Australia does nothing.

A protest that works is something that is a specific demand where what's required is clear. For example Vietnam War protests that demanded the end of Australia's involvement. It's clear what is required and obvious as to how to achieve it.

It's the real life version of updating your Facebook profile picture. It's about being seen to care and being part of a group. I think it also probably helps people feel like they are doing something when they feel powerless and don't know what to do, but that doesn't make it effective.

Part of the problem is that a lot of people feel disenfranchised from government, so they don't believe actions like writing to their local MP will do anything.

Combined with that we have been putting more and more power in the hands of private companies and telling people to exercise political power by choosing what products to buy and from who. So instead of being able to lobby governments to introduce stronger standards on the media's depiction of women (as an example) we have media outlets "self-regulating" and are told if we want things to change to just stop watching things we don't like.

We have a great system of government where every person gets to have some input into who makes the decisions and rules over us, and as a society we have done everything we can to negate that by taking as much power as we can away from government (which in its own flawed way is goverment by the people) and instead giving power to corporations. All supported by a pretence that "consumer power" and being able to pick which brand we buy (out of a selection that are mostly made by the same company anyway) is somehow giving individuals more power.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (2 children)

It's strange. The way we handle serious issues has really changed the past twenty years. Loss of tolerance, loss of compromise, loss of action.

No discussing an issue. No compromises. No solutions asked for or sought. No running for elections or interacting with politics in a real sense. Telling people what to say and think, or else.

Apparently I took it out on my pillow, which I woke up with on the other side of my room

Did I ever tell you how much I dislike cleaning barbecue gas ports? Should be a Jim’s franchise for this shit.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

There are BBQ cleaning services available that will do a thorough clean of the whole BBQ for you.

I can hear a rave/dance party going on from my apartment in Fitzroy North and I can't figure out where it's come from.

Not that I would go anyway as I'm a boring adult who has a job to go to tomorrow ☹️

Box icream sandwich review: Fuck these are too sweet! Aldo, no presentation points for me.

mint icecream sandwich

Nothing much to say about the biscuit bit. Maybe use the half frozen log trick for a neater result? The icecream part makes way more than necessary and the chips tend to sink. Not awful but even Boyo thinks the sugar is excessive. Coat in 80% bitter for crunch & flavour correction?

@Force_majeure123@aussie.zone

Thank you for your sacrifice

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

they look delicious, I might add some chocolate ripple biscuits

would definitely eat

turn the freezer colder and it will taste less sweet

More cleaning today, job made way harder by biodegradable bags exploding into a billion pieces of confetti and getting on everything and breaking down at a touch when picking them up.

Looking forward to some chicken that I seasoned last night and let sit in the fridge overnight, going to see if that makes a difference in flavour.

Anyway more spaces cleaned up for the moment, will resume tomorrow and hopefully I can start to move some furniture around pending vacuuming of stupid left over bag confetti.

I'm trying Chook on a new pellet mix. He's rolling in it rather than eating it

Laid up in bed all day with a cold. Urghhh I'm a giant sook when I'm sick 🀧

I was just reading that the cost of a passport is going up about $50 on 1 July, so anyone planning on getting a passport soon would be advised to do it before then.

Weekend highlight: Finding a Philippino take away/burger place that does an ube (purple yam) flavoured dessert.

Incredibly sweet, but delicious.
