Hi friends.

I own a couple of games that are pretty much played exclusively with the Steam Deck's touch screen. There are some community layouts that do work but they honestly suck. The best example for this is Magic Arena or Football Manager 2024.

Holding the Steam Deck with one hand is a bit uncomfortable, the ergonomics aren't good. I'm sure there must be some kind I'm accessory I'm not aware of that improves this. I tend to play on the couch, a kickstand wouldn't be great here.

Thanks in advance!

It needs to be said that masturbation and porn are not recognized by the majority of psychology scholars or practitioners as vectors for addiction.

From that article:

Using the term “masturbation addiction” is controversial, as there is not significant enough research to support it being a standalone diagnosable condition. Many professionals refer to it as “compulsive masturbation,” which may occur as a symptom of other diagnosable disorders.

I'm willing to assume you shared this in jest, but the Internet really needs to stop parroting this purity culture bullshit, since it has a lot of insidious consequences for a lot of people.

I'm pretty sure it was just a joke my dude

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Okay. I don't apologize. Purity culture isn't a joke to me.

[–] Daxter101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah, that's a toxic and underestimated cultural blight.

The joke itself was good, but thanks for the psa, not enough people think about that shit as the problem that it is.

Some kind of ipad pillow couch stand?

This is honestly pretty genius.

Just be careful about airflow with something like that.

I've got something I can only describe as a "gamer's breastfeeding pillow", it's a sort of U-shaped pillow which you rest your arms and Deck on. Mainly used for long two-handed play sessions, but it would definitely help for one-handed play.

Alternatively you could just try to get used to using the touchpad as a mouse, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.

Probably some kind of exoskeleton. This thing is heavy.

There's the Deckmate, which lets you connect the deck to different monitor mounts. I've seen people put a monitor mount with a swivel arm on the wall above their bed and clip their Deck to it, to play in bed without having to hold the deck up. You could also use the deckmate as a foundation for attaching altermative holding methods to the back. Any method that gives you a good handle on the center back of the deck should be better for touchscreen play. They provide 3d printer files so this can be a nearly free solution if you have a 3d printer.

A popsocket on the back might work as a cheaper alternative to that, but I'd be worried about dropping the deck since I doubt the popsocket is very strong. Should be fine if you're just wanting to use it in your lap though.

You might also be able to use something like this, it's meant to hold a battery pack in a strap on the back of the deck, but you could maybe slide your hand inside the strap to more securely hold the deck from the back.

You could maybe use some kind of tablet rest, but you'll need to make sure the back vents aren't covered.

There are companies selling "gaming pillows". Don't fall for the gamer tax, though, IKEA will sell you a breastfeeding pillow called LEN for a fraction of the price, which is essentially the same thing.
