Just got tripped up by a requirement I missed when trying to apply for a Masters, and might have wasted four months and a bunch of energy/stress, and a lot of ghostings, all for 0 - negative progress.

Any good recommendations for something conciliatory to take the mind off of things for a while? Might try again later, but not today.

Unrelated, but also going to take the opportunity to grumble about places that have a "x amount of times total" limit. It seems unnecessarily restrictive for anything that isn't going to have permanent effects.

Is anyone here on Vodafone? Mine just went down. Trying to figure out if it's just me.

I'm on Vodafone, my service is up. In the Inner SE area.

Just witnessed this moronic person next to me use his phone on 5G while we were descending into Sydney. I donโ€™t think he switched his phone to flight mode at all during the flight, was just waiting for the reception to kick in during the flight. I wouldnโ€™t call myself an anxious flyer but I really didnโ€™t like witnessing this behaviour. Maybe this is more normal than I think?

was it a Boeing? That'd be a bigger concern for me to be honest.

[โ€“] Nath@aussie.zone 3 points 7 months ago

It's a funny thing. The signals from a dozen or so phones are not a problem for a plane. But, there have been no formal safety ratings on hundreds of phones using cellular service while in-flight. It's even probable that there is no interference from everyone using cellular networks, but they don't trust aircraft safety to "probable".

So, they tell people to turn on flight mode and trust in the 90% who do as asked. Don't worry about the 10% on their phones, they'd ban phones in the cabin if there was any doubt at all.

Qantas has wifi on planes now so people could use wifi calling. If they donโ€™t mind getting hosted and sworn at โ€ฆ.
