Just looked over at the match thread over at r/gunners. I beg we never turn into that dumpster fire. Such a negative vibe.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

If you ever doubt the stereotype of Arsenal fans being extremely wishy washy, visit an /r/gunners match thread. I guarantee if we score they'll suddenly be full of positivity and "never in doubt"

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I really disliked that cesspool. I used to avoid Match Threads, especially when we were losing.

Call stuff out when it's warranted, but it was like ArsenalFanTV in a forum

This commentator called the ref out. Said he hasn't done that good a job despite his "experience".

Thank you.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It kind of annoys me that "experience" gets so much weight when it comes to ability. I understand that there are real benefits to it, but it's possible for someone with a lot of time on a job to be completely incompetent. There's good experience and bad experience, and you generally don't get exposure to the good kind until you've already sort of solidified as a professional.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Absolutely agree.

I looked it up and the commentators for this stream are Simon Brotherton and Matt Holland. Matt Holland was the one to call the ref out

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

At least we get to have the penalty shootout on home turf. That should help us a little bit.

Uefa should fucking crown us now for services to football. Fuck all these "Credit to Porto" commentators, they were truly awful to watch over both legs.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

WENDELL YOU FUCKING CUNT, KNOW THAT YOU DESERVE THIS

Surely even neutrals can see how fucked this game is

I don't actually want this, but I'm imagining we score in the next 8 minutes and the added time goes from +3 to +50

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

John Green: This Arsenal game is giving me palpitations and I'm a neutral.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Oh wow, it's that John Green. I didn't know he was a Liverpool fan, although I should have guessed

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

yeah, it is the John Green haha. Follow him cuz his takes on AFC Wimbledon are hilarious. And he actually sponsored the transfer of a player pretty much by himself lmfao

I had to tap out...my heart is going nuts

I wonder what the English media would call Arteta if he reacted to anything like Conceiao does. "Deranged", perhaps?

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I hate to say it, but seeing Nketiah come on doesn't give me much hope. Just about anybody else and I'd at least be happy to see fresh legs out there. But, even when Nketiah has fresh legs he doesn't seem to move in a way that puts pressure on defenders. He'll probably be useful if it comes to penalties though.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah, I think it was more about getting a tired Trossard off. Plus he's paid his dues tonight.

Was this what Mikel meant about we need to suffer?

Cmon lads! Let's put this game to bed!

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Martin: "We go first". <3

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Lads getting frustrated. We need to just score a banger. Elneny on the pitch maybe? XD

[–] soycapitan451@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I'm glad I'm not paying for this commentary.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Going dark on the thread so I get no spoilers from Lemmy, see you guys on the other side

Oh wow, exact same push and no card. I wonder why?

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Kind of seems like this half of added time has gone by in a flash, at least compared to the first 90.

[–] ironeaglebird@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Big Gabi didn't hear no bell.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (4 children)

Saka seems completely knackered, but there's no way Mikel takes him off in this position
