But wouldn’t the “per 100,000 people” scale even out the discrepancy?
STL proper accounts for only 300k of the metro's population of nearly 3 million and contains the majority of homicides. Most metros aren't divided that way

Missouri is represented twice in the list, with St Louis as the worst, and Kansas city not far behind.
Louisiana and Ohio are also on this list twice
