Hello everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for routers that have both a fiber optic cable connection to the WAN and one or two fiber optic connections for the LAN. Can anyone suggest some good options or a website where I can find more information on this topic?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I’ve been extremely happy with my UniFi gear. It has 2 SFP+ ports.

Thanks for your reply. This router costs around 400€ in my area and has additional 9x RJ45-Ports - do you know any alternative which has less Ethernetports but is cheaper?

The only other good brand, that has fiber, is accessible for home use, that I am aware of, is TP-Link’s “Omada” line of business routers. Unfortunately, they seem to only be marginally cheaper than UniFi.

If you end up finding a cheap fiber router, let us know

Edit: you might be able to build a fiber router cheaper if you got ahold of an old PC, bought the right PCIe card for some fiber ports, and used something like OPNSense or OpenWRT but I’ve never looked into it

I don't know of any cheap options that include 2x SFP Ports.

Mikrotik has the RB5009 if you can live with only one.

Thanks again to the 2 Lemmy users who responded to my request for a router with 2 SFP ports! Apart from the mentioned options: The solution would be for a home office that would require not only FTTH (fiber-to-the-home), but also FTTD (fiber-to-the-desk). Is this requirement really so rare or so niche? Are there (still) so few people who use an FTTD solution?

Well, your post is a little bit dated but I just got here.

What you (might) want is FTTR. The cheapest solution I’m aware off is from Huawei. It is very hard to come by if you are not in the right market.

I said cheapest, doesn’t mean it’s inexpensive. https://www.huawei.com/en/news/2023/8/fttr-optixstar-f30

Did you find another way in the meantime?
