I've been struggling with anxiety and depression for several years now, and finally got to a point where I can take care of myself day to day.

But i'm still looking to start earning some income to pay for living expenses and therapy, but I can't seem to find something that's not full time and long term. (Especially when looking for something higher than minimum wage)

Anybody have tips on where to find jobs or projects like this? (My background is in software engineering, but I'm willing to do anything, perhaps even more interested in options that don't require too much computer work)

Supermarket distribution centres. Not good long term as you will inevitably feel it after years, but great pay and you're left to your own devices most of the time.

Does this require some experience with forklifts or something?

Not when I was doing it. Just go in with the attitude that it is a means to an ends, and turn up sober and on time and they'll be stoked to have you.

Goodwill stores, at least where i live, are good for people in shaky situations. More accepting of people with special needs, circumstances. Mention cuz, not the type of work you're looking for... for me, been out of work so long (8 years), me getting a p/t job at goodwill, committing, proving i can keep it, it's the only way better paying jobs will take me seriously.

Would like the 75k per year tech job I had b4 becoming homeless. But have to be realistic, start small.

I had a 38k tech job as a generalist before I got fired and moved in with toxic family to avoid being homeless. I feel some of your pain. Hope things get better for you.

You may be interested in traffic control jobs? They are casual and outside which may help with your life and rhythm Like this one https://www.seek.com.au/job/73820455?tracking=SHR-AND-SharedJob-anz-1

If it's too much of a commitment, school crossing guards can be nice for 4 hours a day - get outside and see kids

Might be a good option. I would have to protect myself though, I burn so fast standing outside. Does this require a white card?

[–] dugmeup@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Slip slap slop brother 😁

Not sure on the white card but they are around 100 and you can get it in a day

Didn't know that, now I'll definitely have to look into it, thanks!

If you have any sensory issues with sunscreen, I highly recommend the Neutrogena Ultrasheer range. I can’t stand the thick, greasy feeling. They have a spray-on that’s great for re-applying in the middle of the day.
