I've heard a lot of crazy things about Sweden in terms of metal music, I don't really believe in it much as a lot seems over the top and not that believable, I can just assume it's popular and that's it. Now, is rock really popular? and I mean not only classic rock but also modern rock that covers sub-genres like alternative metal/alt rock etc.

Sweden is the source of a lot of great rock music, but it seems to me that the vast majority of Swedes do not listen to any of it, nor any other rock music created now or in the past forty years or so. Ask a Swede what their favorite rock band is and they will probably hem and haw, say something about Queen or the Beatles, and then they will want to talk to you about Avicii instead.
