Manulife thought they could sneak it in under the radar. One wonders what else they've done that's gone unnoticed.

Rules
Reminder that the rules for lemmy.ca also apply here. See the sidebar on the homepage:
Telus is forcing their employees (just Telus Health, as telus proper has unions) to use their Virtual pharmacy. 1-3 days for meds to make it to your door and no other pharmacy is covered. I really hope it's leaked soon and they also go back on this.
Could you image your meds are late and having to call support, or having surgery and waiting 3 days for pain meds? Fuck.
Drop a line to a news outlet. I'm sure someone like CBC marketplace would love to break the story.
Or the Fifth Estate. They L O V E stuff like this.
that's so fucked
is there any regulation in this industry?
They're doing it and they're NOT backing down. It's been made very clear people are not happy, some have straight up said they'll quit to upper management.
As I understand it, Québec is the only place telus can't do this because it's not going to affect them.
Bob Loblaw was involved?
Check his law blog, he explains everything.
They're going to spin this into 'caring,' but it's bullshit. Manulife should be beaten down HARD for even attempting - for even CONSIDERING - this level of evil.
Manulife AND fucking Loblaws. The latter should be split up
Sweet, can we do grocery stores, cars and housing next?
... For now ....
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Manulife will cover specialty drugs filled at any pharmacy, the insurance company said Monday, backtracking on its decision to only cover drugs filled at Loblaw-owned pharmacies less than a week after the exclusivity deal was announced.
"This decision ensures Canadians have choice, access and flexibility in managing their health," the website reads in the Q&A portion of its statement.
Members with specialty drug prescriptions can still receive their medications through Bayshore and Loblaw-owned pharmacies.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Manulife pointed CBC News to the website statement.
The initial deal first reported by The Canadian Press would have impacted around 260 medications under the insurance company's Specialty Drug Care program, which are meant to treat complex, chronic or life-threatening conditions.
It sparked backlash from customers, drug policy experts and independent pharmacists, who said the plan — known as a preferred pharmacy network arrangement — would degrade the quality of pharmaceutical care that patients receive.
The original article contains 347 words, the summary contains 149 words. Saved 57%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
Health insurance is a fucking scam.
Dental insurance is a fucking scam. (And should be included with 'health')
Auto insurance is a fucking scam.
Insurance everyone needs is a fucking scam.
Just like banking, there's no competition. It's just a cabal of massively profitable private entities that operate on the same well defined formulas they have for 60 years.
We need to publicize these services. They have nothing to offer but taking money out of our pockets.
That was quick. To bad that's all these twats are gonna do.
