I tried to subscribe to https://kbin.social/m/food, but it says there's no posts. When I view it from that link, or from lemmy.world, it shows many posts. Why can't I see them on lemmy.fmhy.ml?

Also happens with https://kbin.social/m/futurology

You might be the first person on lemmy.fmhy.ml to subscribe there. If you are, you'll get all future posts, but it doesn't go back and fetch older ones. If you aren't I have no idea.

Wait what? That doesn't seem right. If you're the first person to subscribe, you can't see ANY of the previous posts?! Surely there's a way to see them from my account. I thought the whole point of federation is you don't need multiple accounts?

What's supposed to happen is that if you're the first person to look at a certain community, it'll start fetch all of the previous posts and start indexing everything. However, since kbin is separate from lemmy and the two are only communicating via global fediverse tech, it only indexes new posts. That's just my understanding though.

Oh it's because it's kbin. Ok makes sense
