It's kind of sad how much Elon wants the internet to validate him.

[–] const_void@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago

Same as Bezos and Trump. They're so desperate be seen as a "cool guy".

[–] Belgdore@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Which is insane, because he would be if he just kept his mouth shut and only gave yearly press conferences on Tesla and spacex. Before ~2014 every one loved the guy.

[–] depressed_submissive@lemmy.fmhy.ml 45 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm wondering/imagining. Did he walk into a diy store to get that thing himself or did one of his employees do it? Did he buy it an hour before or a day before? What goes through one's mind to think "I'll go buy a sink and have my picture taken with it, that'll be funny". Was there a meeting about this?

[–] bobthened@feddit.uk 7 points 1 year ago

No way he bought that himself. He definitely made some underpaid assistant buy it about 10 minutes before he needed to walk in with it.

[–] ObiGynKenobi@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

Meetings are rather pointless when you're a supervillain deathly allergic to anything but the most sycophantic of praise and affirmation.

[–] Odusei@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And it's not even a kitchen sink. Couldn't even do that right.

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

At least he’s a consistent failure.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

His joke wasn't about "and the kitchen sink" though. That might have actually been clever.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I still don’t understand what it was about, if not the kitchen sink.

Not gonna lie, I still don't know what the joke was supposed to be.

[–] Zirconium@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He bought Twitter. "Let that sink" in.

Don't shoot me I'm just a messenger

[–] RooRLoord420@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My palm is firmly imbeded in my face. Thanks for bringing me into the light lol

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm so dumb, I thought it was an "everything but the sink reference"

[–] Methylman@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nah , that might have been mildly funny / clever

[–] booty_flexx@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Hey fellow dummy, I too thought it was something like "I bought everything AND the sink hahaha, isn't that funny?"

[–] Fortychops@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What a fucking douche bag he is

[–] TheRaven@lemmy.ca 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

A week later, he uprooted thousands of lives by laying them off, without even understanding how the product worked. His severance was well below what was initially promised, and he often mocked those who were laid off, or encouraged others in their mocking. Douche bag is a gentle way of putting it.

[–] Cheez@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

His severance was well below what was initially promised

Except for that one guy who had a massive contractual severance package and they tried to renege on firing him.

[–] TheRaven@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

You mean Iceland’s person of the year who made it his personal mission to make Reykjavík more accessible for people in wheelchairs? The guy who Elon used HR’s privately disclosed info to publicly mock for his disability which he also used as illegal justification for his firing?

[–] fprawn@programming.dev 10 points 1 year ago

He paid 44B plus the cost of this sink all for a sinked (sic) cost fallacy.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week.

[–] CynAq@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Wait...

Is he letting that sink in? Is that the joke?

[–] Saltycreams@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago

The joke was a long con. He came there to “sink” the company

[–] BornVolcano@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can anyone catch me up on what that is?

[–] chaogomu@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The day that Musk took over Twitter, he walked in to the office carrying a sink.

All so he could post this not very funny joke;

Entering Twitter HQ - let that sink in!

The more skeptical parts of the internet correctly pointed out that this was the start of Musk sinking the company. Which is still not a very funny joke, but some acts in this play have been hilarious. Like when Twitter started DDoSing itself a couple days ago.

[–] BornVolcano@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks! I feel like the joke would be funny to me if he didn't then proceed to royally fuck up Twitter

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

It's a sink he brought to Twitter on his first day, so he could say "let that sink in".

[–] asparagus@lemmy.fmhy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I think the winners there were the people who got that money. When i see this kind of posts, I wonder about the countries could pay their debts and get outside the shit 3rd world

[–] tallwookie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

the sink itself is probably worth something though

[–] Yoz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Bro its crazy he has 44 billion. I sometimes wonder how life is like for Elon and his family.

[–] mstrbassist@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

It wasn’t all his. Iirc, he went to the Middle East to secure loans.
