Oh yeah, great tools. The old mechanical ones, though?Just as good. According to people I know, anyway. The cheap digital ones in particular are still great for 3D printing stuff but not necessarily actually as precise as a high-quality old analogue caliper.

they're probably far from as acurate as an old school caliper. it's a fairly new thing that cheap calipers (digital and otherwise) have started getting made.

that said, for 3d printing...the cheapos are usually "good enough"

Although my god, even a halfway decent set of dial calipers is extremely satisfying to use.
