I love how one of the selling points of my phone (which was all the smart "AI" crap, one of which being the ability to transcribe a recording) completely falls apart the moment it's not an American talking directly into the microphone.... I don't think it's actually understood anything I've tried to use it for, even in person and very clear discussions. But my favourites are trying to record train announcements:

"Now arriving at Berwick [Berrick]" > "now I'm riding ash ferric"

"Next [unintelligible] is Narre Warren station " > "best mattresses marijuana station"

"Berwick [Berrick]" > "Spheric"

And bonus from Sydney: "Saint Peters" became "simp penis"

[–] mysticgreg@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

I've always had a thing for Ash Ferric.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

i love that there is a train of the month

So if you're not home to receive it and he needs to come back later, does that count as the second coming?

I'll see myself out...

I have been banned from Reddit. 1st time with my seagoon, 4th time including all reddit accounts

apparently calling out hate speech and racist lies is now abuse

But I am not surprised, the troll armies have been brigading on other sites to get posts and people banned

[–] the_procrastinata@aussie.zone 7 points 10 months ago

On the r/Melbourne or a different sub? r/Melbourne is dogshit at the moment, so many trolls and right-wing nutjobs crawling all over it.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Someone on reddit dt copied my it's Friday, Friday message. Coincidence or lurker? Lol.

[–] mysticgreg@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I saw both the Friday messages and was wondering if it was some weird coincidence or not. I actually replied to the reddit one before I saw yours.

But now that i know THE TRUTH, my reply to the Reddit one shall be duly deleted COZ THAT'LL SHOW EM the plagiarising pricks! =)

There's probably a bunch of lurkers who never made accounts. It's like reading r/australia, you just can't comment.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

They can't be stealing content from the little guys. But really I don't give a shit. πŸ˜‚

I reckon there's a few lurkers though that just don't know how to navigate lemmy.

[–] Aradina@lemmy.ml 11 points 10 months ago

Finally, I can see these on Lemmy.ml again. I think the federation issues were stopping any posts from coming over. Good to have this back!

Really enjoying the cooler weather. Unfriendly reminder that loft beds only sound like a good idea and that you're in for a world of suck if you can't get air circulating up there.

Rocked my interview this morning.

I'm gonna hate telling them I won't be accepting the role.

Two more interviews lined up next week. Today's was good practice.

Miss Seagoon bought me some chocolate in Thailand.

Yellow curry flavoured chocolate. It was revolting.

Why does this even exist?

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 10 months ago

Eww. It would've tasted like vomit.

I was at the Coles deli today and the young lass stuck the barcode to her shirt and then couldn't get it off so I said to her with a straight face "just don't try to walk out of here because the gates won't open". She then laughed so hard she really couldn't get it off.

one more day, one more day to go, got next week off w00t w00t gonna do a bunch of repointing

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I'm going to bed, I'm stuck in hell,
One more day 'til my knock-off bell.
Worked long days and slept short nights,
Tonight I'll fly high like Franklin's kite.

Put a fork in me, I'm done,
I've forgotten everything fun,
Brain clocked out before I've begun,
Oh remind me: what is fun?

Please lay me down gently, I've done my best,
Let the blacks of my eyelids put me to rest.
I was so naive to believe that life was a test;
This universe is chaos, we're just stuck in its mess.

I have the best news ever! My local Coles, which is a 5 minute stagger down the road is getting one of those 10c deposit bottle thingos. I just need to borrow a trolley now and I'm laughing. Today keeps getting better and better. πŸ‘

I've finally had enough and I'm buying a new mattress. The super-duper firm one I've had for a while is just making me sore all the time. I have a thin and a quite thick mattress topper on it but it's still way too firm so it can go bye bye.

The bed on the cruise ship was so soft I actually thought it might be a waterbed when I first laid on it and I slept really well! I think I need to reassess my pillow situation while I'm at it because I was using 3 pillows on the ship but they were the type which were filled with feathers (I think) and sunk a lot. I've been using a high-profile latex Dunlopillo for years but I think maybe it's not right for me anymore.

Anyway, I'm pumped to hopefully not have sore hips/lower back pain every morning.

Edit: anyone bought from and have a referral code for Sleeping Duck? I get $50 off and you get a $50 e-gift card in 100 days.

Still hanging in there. Slowly getting better but it's slow. Having less meds so that's a good sign. :) I wish a bad back on no one

[–] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Was going to go to a speed dating thing tonight, but am staying home to keep an eye on fluffy butt. Not too annoyed, just want her to feel better. Gave her some pain relief before and she's dozy so we'll see what happens.

That said, I have a question for you guys:

Do you find it hard to make meaningful friendships in Melbourne? It seems to cliquey here for some reason. I lived in Adelaide for about 6 years and everyone was super friendly and I made friends within 2 weeks of moving there.

I dunno if it's just me...

Can't stop eating the prosciutto stuffed olives I bought at the market yesterday! Every time I'm even remotely close to the kitchen I descend upon them like an animal.

[–] calhoon2005@aussie.zone 6 points 9 months ago (8 children)

Just so you know, the world's best corn on the cob was made tonight. By me.

I think he loves my singing

Onya Tobes.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

I have made the probably insane decision to patchwork recover the overly cat loved sofa. Done dining chairs before, but this is a whole nother level of mad. Wish me luck!

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I dropped off the sample and paid, hopefully it’s usable.

I feel so awkward around people and going outside these days. The Uber driver small talk script seems to be working ok, but it’s not exactly sparkling. And then there’s dodging the genuinely cooked neighbours 😬

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

How good is a ham and salad roll?! Almost good enough you dont even notice your eating a wholemeal grain roll.
