I'll be offline this week, on a cruise to Tasmania.

[–] Marsupial@quokk.au 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It’s like a 9 hour boat trip, how lost are you planning on getting to stretch it out to a week?

Have a good trip. If the Tasmanian Fudge Company is still running bring me back some fudge. πŸ™‚

Stand-up meetings, where everyone is in fact sitting down and it goes for almost an hour, a very crappy way to start the week.

Also this annoying brown-noser type person at my work took it upon themselves to run the meeting and they called me out on screen and asked me how my weekend was. I said it was fine and asked how theirs was, their response to my lack of information was "wow it's like talking to a teenager". Fuck off. If I don't want to regail all of the staff about what I did on the weekend like you do, then that's my decision to make.

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 10 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

β€œwow it’s like talking to a teenager”

completely unacceptable. Go to HR and your manager on it. Claim to be offended (Because they wont give a shit otherwise). You're owed an apology and they need to learn they cant do it any more.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 10 months ago

Oh I hate this cunt for you.

[–] wscholermann@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

I would have responded with " hmm that comment resembles something a teenager might say".

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

Wow. Just wow.

I answer much like you to questions about how I am and stuff like that at work and I do get ribbed a bit that I’m never anything but fine but it’s all lighthearted and that they’d love to hear that I’m feeling wonderful one day but seriously that response is so unnecessary and ugly.

Me thinks you need to raise this with someone perhaps.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

passive agressive denigrating remarks in the workplace? mmm well that's not conductive for a good working environment, I'd suggest having a chat with HR.

Not my f’ing day.

Just spilt my entire dinner on the god damn carpet and had to do a massive cleanup and remaking dinner again as all of it had to be tossed out.

It’s the last thing I need right now!

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Poor bugger, I feel for you, that really sucks. At least you made another.. I've been known to crack the shits and go without in a huff like an idiot

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Trust me I cracked the shits.

It was souped based as well which made it so much worse to clean up.

Almost thought about going without as well.

Anyway time to take a deep breath.

Still annoyed at myself.

BummerI've been struggling for hours to get my abdominal pain down to manageable levels and am currently back on a liquid diet. The severe pain is happening so frequently now and all the specialists so far have just shrugged or been jerks. Trying to get in with a pain management clinic via a private route now because this is debilitating.

I am eating chicken nuggets!!!! I can not taste them and they are probably a terrible choice for my first solid food, but chicken nuggets!!!

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's been a long-ass day, so many calls,
So many people staring at their walls,
Calling us to do some dirty, hard work.

I'm trying so hard to talk to them all,
Tell them we'll pick them up when they fall,
I start at 10am, it's the only real perk.

I tell myself I'm not burning out,
It's just a busy period,
It's what this job is all about,
I tell myself I'm not burning out,
It's just a busy period,
I'm just a bit worn out.

I made a post on Facebook mentioning I had some time off and now Facebook is suggesting I start a chat group to plan a meetup. All of these "smart" AI/algorithms are really starting to be annoying - it's like having an idiot friend around who constantly misses the point of things. Instead of adding value like it's supposed to, most of the time it just takes up time and distracts you pointlessly.

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Nothing worse than when technology tries to be "Helpful"

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

If the technology was smart enough to understand context it might actually manage to be helpful. But when your post is actually about looking forward to spending time at home and not going out, plus it is in a group with 82K members from all over the world and not a great venue to plan an impromptu meetup, then that sort of suggeston coming up is just an annoyance.

I've made a new post named Tucker Time on !foodaustralia@aussie.zone replacing What's for dinner? That way you can post about your breakfast, lunch, dinner etc.

It would be great if you could contribute unless of course if you live on air. Thank you.

The press fawning over "our" Queen Mary is really cringe and gross. She got married so what. She didn't invent the cure for cancer. Australia isn't special, deal with it.

PSA: I've lost some photos. Partly my fault, partly computers dying. Anyway right now I had 3 or 4 repositories or backups, most duplicated, but I only discovered recently that at some point something corrupted and I lost some priceless photos. Spent 3 weeks digging through old storage to find a backup and luckily, I found a VERY old SD card that contains them. Its a miracle that it survived this long. I nearly cried tears of joy. Anyway, if you don't have a good backup solution? Go make one. Right bloody now!

I'm also open to suggestions for management/organization of photos. Right now im across iCloud for recent stuff, Dropbox for last gen stuff, and then google drive for older than that stuff. And its just chaos!

There's a whole lot of earth moving going on out the back of mine and the reverse noise on one of the bits of equipment sounds like a huge wattle bird and the resident magpies are freaking the fuck out. Just standing there on the lawn staring at this excavator probably regretting the little feud they have going on (with the real wattle birds).

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

I hate the new style reverse noise. Apparently it’s now the thing to use because it is more noticeable and annoying than the beeps.

My friend and I were chatting outside a cafe when a Bogan looking human riding on a scooter passed us saying "πŸ™„fucking Asians". πŸ˜‚

I don't think I belong in that category but I'll take it. She was def looking for a reaction and I gave her none and she just left. This was my first openly racist comment in 4 years, not bad!

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

The worst abuse I used to hear in Detroit was abuse from passers by who thought I was a race traitor. So maybe that's why you copped some nasty words. Not Asian but hanging with Asians in an Asian place.

It's unacceptable and distressing. hugs

i got stuck into some sorting and decluttering today, and decided to pull out a bunch of stuff for hard rubbish. I went to book it in and apparently the collection people are taking a Christmas break and there are no collections until February. Oops.

Rental car (from my insurance) sorted.
I asked for a small car and got a Mitsubishi SUV (not sure what model, no badges on the outside).
Annoyingly, I can't get it to sync with my phone via bluetooth so I'll have to use Android Auto and plug it in via USB, which means no Deezer. Sigh.
Driving it has been... a learning curve, especially when I hit three red lights in two minutes. Ah well.

Just watched my elderly neighbour reverse into his mailbox. Barely any damage, but I just know he'll spend the next 3 days 'fixing' it loudly with every power tool he owns.

I have encountered the most saddest Apple strudel.

The pastry was so thick and claggy… I could only eat the filling.

Been applying for a few jobs recently and actually getting calls (interviews lined up for next week). One in particular is fairly senior and not related to what I've done (can argue that my experience is transferable) and the manager I spoke to is very keen to interview me.

Might have to do some sleuthing to find out more about the team and culture in the place.

I am caretaker free today, so I am donning a mask and gloves and taking care of myself. I am very curious to see how I go considering I'm going to attempt quite a few chores today.

My mouth and throat feel good today so I might have a go at some scrambled egg or something as well, exciting times!

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

Work goes so much faster when you have something genuinely interesting to investigate. Accidentally stayed late, I never do that!

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Cats are weird and full of surprises. I got a pot plant off the footpath, a bromeliad in flower, it has nice pink and purple spikes. Ted Cat loves it!! He's playing with leaves, hiding under and behind it, sniffing it all over. He's very cute. 😺 He is now half asleep on the sofa pooped out.

I just put my shower curtain liner in the washing machine, and it made me wonder how many people actually have shower curtains and not glass panels these days. I suspect it is an ever-dwindling number.
