Interview went ok. They did catch me off guard with a couple of questions. But fingers crossed for a positive result!

I got another call from a recruiter for a government contract job that pays literally double what I was making before. So that's a good backup.

Today is the first day in over 3 weeks I've had any time to myself. Not even 10 minutes to myself. I don't regard a walk in a crowded park as having time to myself.

I'm fucking exhausted and emotional.

Did I just spend over 5 solid hours in the same position on the couch trying to solve a question on a Stack Exchange website? (for a grand total of 2 internet points because most of the userbase isn't online at this time)

...really better go and have a walk now geez.

[–] bull@aussie.zone 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I have arrived in Albury pretty glad to have decided to break up the drive. I could have pushed through but it would have been rough near the end I suspect.

Lovely day here too! I was expecting rain but found sunshine.

Nonsense drama on my street today. Tomorrow is bin day, some residents have rolled out their green waste bin, whilst others (myself included as it's the correct one) rolled out the recycling bin.

One neighbour asked me how I knew (checked the council website to verify) and quickly corrected his mistake.

The neighbour that had a blue with his missus rolled out his green one and gave me a very patronizing smirk.

When my bin gets emptied I'm going to wait until he's outside to roll mine in. Debating whether to blow him a kiss or just wave enthusiastically.

[–] wscholermann@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Hahahaha I'm laughing at the thought of you smugly blowing a kiss. What a fucking wanker.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I wondering what the person who asked how you knew thinks the system is. I am imaging them asking with bewilderment, how do you know which bin it is?!? Maybe they think it’s random each week and you are a magician who can see the future.

Yay, pick up the keys to the new unit today.

This is my latest creation. I call it The Nest

A creme caramel centre with vanilla icecream and ice magic. So good. So bad. But so really good.

Why do cows eat grass?

For the moo-trients.

It's dumb, but my God does that make me giggle.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 8 points 10 months ago

Thank you!! I stood straight up and told that to my boss, who just shook his head at me while I sat back down and giggled for a bit.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 points 10 months ago

I've been awake since like 2:30am and can't get back to sleep.. but the plus side of that is that I got to see the underside of the Sydney Harbour Bridge about 25 minutes ago. Pretty keen to get off the ship and on the road apparently. I'm glad I went to bed relatively early!

Still won't be able to disembark for 2 hours due to the customs staff not being at the terminal until 6:30am.. which is ok because the car hire place doesn't open until 7:30am.

Hurry up, time!

[–] bull@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Was the 4th off the ship and I booked my Uber from the gangway like a boss so my car was ready for me as soon as I walked out. Beat the surge pricing hell yeeeeahhh!

Although I am at the rental car place 35 minutes before they open.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Have a safe drive back mate, don't push it too hard on low sleep - there's still some rain hanging around Goulburn heading east, hopefully it clears up by the time you hit the frog and toad.

[–] bull@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

I found that rain! Got through it no worries though. Just at Yass now.

Work has been busy from the get go this year. Isn't the first week back in January supposed to be cruisey?

I've got a meeting for a new contractor position on Thursday where the $$ earning potential is very good so fingers crossed that goes well. I've got another business on the hook that wants to sign me up as well. Between them, I think I could make a decent enough living (with the added flexibility) so I can escape my hellhole workplace ASAP. This is the place that asked me to voluntarily leave last year. Coming back to it in the new year has been rougher than expected. I'm not invested in this job at all anymore, and faking/forcing it while waiting for the perfect role is super exhausting. I need out.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 9 points 10 months ago (13 children)

I don't wanna go to work today. ☹️ Is anyone able to go in and impersonate me for a day instead? Can pay in zucchini.

Isn’t it funny that over the break I slept fantastically. Solid every night, just about never needing to get up for the toilet, etc, but back to work and I’m awake at 4am musing over the stupidest things – not even always work related! Very frustrating.

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You slept?! Lucky. I went to bed at 11, think I fell asleep like 3am? feel like death warmed up.

Thought I'd give the housemate a break from making my meals since I still can't touch any shared spaces, so I ordered some lunch with enough leftovers for tea and jesus fkn christ it's highway robbery out there.

We found a Thai joint on the weekend that was ridiculously cheap. Like pre-covid cheap. 4 mains, 1 entree, 1 large coconut rice...under $75 (take away)

I saw their website pricing and had to call to make sure it wasn't an old site.

My favourite dress seems to have been discontinued. I must have worn to bits at least twenty of these over the years, it’s damn near my uniform. Now the horrors of finding something new and dressing room mirrors 😾

Two jobs cancelled today, one in the doorstep so I still get paid, hooray!
In other news, turns out guy who I cleaned house for today knows the seller of the place I'm interested in and can vouch for its condition and the neighbours. Small world...

I always think I'm going to enjoy some family free time when it's coming up, then I get it and I'm lonely the first night. Empty house and all that. On the flip side, I'm having garlic bread for dinner.

About to begin building a new 'puter.

Old main workhorse desktop just decided to kick the bucket. 13yrs it lasted me! We had our ups and downs but now that it's finally gone it won't get jeaslous of the new one.

But reading up on the way to go for the next build... jeez things have moved on. Thankfully I don't need a gfx card those prices are stupid.

I will try and resurrect ol' mate one or two more times but after that it's going in the 'puter graveyard :(

Turns out the Mystery Car I booked ended up being the non-turbo base model version of my car!

It's fine on the highway but it is making me appreciate the turbo and the extras my car has. Glad I got to drive this.

I already typed this out then I pressed something and it disappeared. Sorry if it attached to someone else's comment. ☺

Audio books are great. I have listened to one science book and half a true crime book ( Narcos ) this year already. My mind feels refreshed and I don't feel guilty for not reading. 🤓I have also read 3 chapters of an art book from Tate Gallery.

I totally recommend audio books. 👍

Loud sounds of something like a chainsaw here in the inner NE, very late at night, going on for quite a while... I'm going to guess SES it's dealing with a large tree in imminent danger of failing. Who the fuck else would do it past midnight.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 10 months ago

It's Ted Cat . That boy yells a racket.

So I seem to have discovered why fans usually have a mesh over the intake (beyond trying to save peoples fingeys). My Big W heater I got doesn't have one, and because I run it as a fan most days, a lot of dust has gotten inside and all collected on the heater wire thingo. Fast forward to today when I tried to turn it on and it starts smoking (I was curious how much power it draws (bought a smart plug), not cold, before anyone asks).

And because of a combination of Big W hating repairability and not wanting to get sued cause some kid got burnt and electrocuted from touching the heating element, I can't really take the back case off to clean it out... They used a star style screw that's very deeply recessed and has uneven spacing, and appear to have melted these plastic tab things in place so I'll both fuck up the backplate and void my warranty for trying to make it not catch fire

God damn it Big W

Now they've found loose bolts on Boeing AirMax. Fuck me dead those things are a flying death trap. It seems Boeing have learnt nothing from the MCAS tragedy.

Would not set foot on one of those things if you paid me and I don't care who has allegedly certified them.
