Seems like this would fall under a hate crime, not just basic harassment. Not to mention that this wasn't just an online thing... he stalked and then taunted the victim IRL.

What an evil fuck. I'm pretty desensitized, but that one got to me.

Why doesn't the media report his religion?

[–] ram@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because they don't want to actually report the fact that the majority of these hate crimes come from one religion, protecting it because it's the dominant one amongst White Wing Extremists and Moderates alike.

If we already have the plus at the end of LGBTQ+, why do we have to keep adding new letters/numbers every couple of months?

The year is 2029, the headline:
"Bigoted man under arrest for harassing 2SLWYTABNCLGBTQJSHGF+ individual."

This shit is getting out of control.

Gonna be the optimist here and simply educate.

America isn't the whole world. This article is Canadian. Canada's First Nations (and all Indigenous but especially them) believe one version of gender nonconformity comes from the person being of two spirits simultaneously. Hence two-spirit (2S). Today you're one of the 10,000. Congrats.

I think the point of the question was, why wasn't that included on the "+"

And now that I think about it, what determines what's in the "+" and what isnt

Genuinely interested and want to get educated on this - is the idea that each individual has a male and female spirits (and gender is a spectrum on that scale)? How did the First Nations people determine how to divide the traditional gender roles, for example who the hunters chasing the prey are and who stays back to take care of the young ones? Or are these two seperated topics that are mixed up in my head?

I'm not an expert on the topic; it's just something I've read about and wanted to share. Wouldn't want to get the more intricate details wrong. I think it's great you want to learn more though. It's fascinating stuff. I'd recommend checking out better sources than I.

But again, why aren't they covered by the "+"?

When do we stop adding new letters and numbers and just let the plus do its' job?!
