First of all the upgrade removed my pinned contacts and apps, so I had to start the game of whack a mole all over again. The default suggested apps and contacts were apps I never used and people I never contact.

You get 5 options now instead of 4 which is ok, but you can't have two rows of favorites. Just one. The first pinned app slot is now taken up by a permanent "nearby share" icon that can't be removed so you basically have 4 pinned app slots.

I still haven't been able to pin the handful of individuals I share things with yet. Hopefully eventually they are graced by the algorithm lords and show up some day so I can pin them.

At this point I am pretty sure Google wants the share menu unusable for some reason. It's been garbage for so long....

Possibly because it makes YouTube alternatives too convenient when you can share straight from YouTube to Newpipe.

I think you're seriously overestimating the number of people who would actually benefit from that ease of use.

Yup. I used to use the official YouTube App and then "share" each Video to Firefox. They must have realized that because jow they force an extra 2 clicks to do that.

I wish they would just allow 3rd party share menus, like launchers

Better Share used to be a great app. Like a decade ago.

I feel like most people don't understand that there is a default share menu for the OS providers but the vast majority of apps create their own (which are significantly worse).

The Android 14 share menu works great for me. The people and apps I share stuff with are always there. 🀷

Thanks for this. I'm on android 14 on Pixel 7 and had no idea you could pin items in the share tray.

Now I've been able to pin my two most frequently shared contacts and my most two used apps.

Your pain has been my gain so thanks but sorry.

I'm glad to hear it!

URLCheck is great if you often use the share menu to open things in different apps.

I'm not ready for Lineage os 21. It will be a change but hopefully a welcome one.

I would really really love to turn off the quick share options in the system share menu. Unfortunately, this is not an option.
