General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The embattled prime minister is hosting an emergency breakfast in Downing Street this morning with would-be rebels who have warned that "major surgery" is still required to fix the legislation.

The Safety of Rwanda Bill aims to revive the stalled £290m scheme to deport asylum seekers who arrive by small boat to the east African nation, after the Supreme Court ruled it unlawful.

But in a sign of the challenge facing the prime minister, moderates from the opposite wing said the government must "stick to its guns", warning that any further changes to appease the right-wingers would breach international law and prove "unacceptable".

Former defence secretary Ben Wallace urged his colleagues not to "wreck" the government over the Rwanda plan, describing immigration as a "Rubik's cube of a problem".

The backing of the One Nation caucus was a boost to the prime minister - who spent most of Monday in front of the COVID-19 inquiry - and his hopes for getting the bill through the key parliamentary stage.

Meanwhile Brexiteer European Research Group (ERG) said the legislation had "so many holes in it" that the consensus from this wing of the party was to "pull the bill" and put forward a "revised version that works better".

The original article contains 925 words, the summary contains 206 words. Saved 78%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

~~He already knows the vote will pass.~~ This is just narrative to make it look like the Tories are unified and the infighting has stopped. The reality is that the factions, that were gunning for him, could not decide on who they wanted to replace him. This is nothing more than a stay until they can get themselves sorted out.

The ERG are pushing their version of a narrative by publicly stating that the bill should be pull for amendments. This is so they can say I told you so when it fails at a later date. There is nothing they can do to make the bill pass without breaking international laws or agreements. This specifically threatens the TCA with the EU. Who only happens to be our largest trading partner. When the bill gets to the Lords, they will reject it. It is not part of any manifesto they were voted in with.

Just don't put the pop corn away just yet.

This seems very much up in arms still. What was said this morning and last night has changed around.
