Does anyone know how to modify Shreddit?

Like from https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/34112/Updated-Reddit-is-quietly-restoring-deleted-AND-overwritten-posts-and#entry-comment-140501

https://github.com/jdbassa/Shreddit
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/python-shreddit-git

I really want to use this, but I have a couple of additional requirements:

First, to save a copy of my content locally on my hard disk (somewhere, anywhere, any format is fine) before overwriting and deleting the comment/post. So that I can manually repost on kbin/fediverse later.

Second, one particular post and comment I'd like to exclude from deletion. I've already overwritten with my good-bye reddit message and - as it was my most popular post ever - like to leave it up so folks who used to go back to that post to see my advice will know where to follow up to find me again.

I'd actually prefer to leave all my comments up with just the modified message but I think I have too many for the tools to delete automatically - instead I'd have to delete, wait a bit for the queue to refresh, then delete again as older comments start showing up on the API.

And I'm not confident that Reddit will get back to me before July 1 about my data retrevial request, which might make automatically deleting much harder.

Anyone know of a modified Shreddit that can handle these two requirements?

For the time being I've manually saved and edited my posts. There's one major sub, Animorphs, that I'm waiting for to go public so I can grab and remove those posts, then I'm deleting the account for good.

Still trying to work out what to do about the comments. Someone posted a different script for that, https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/16226/Wrote-a-script-to-edit-all-my-posts so I might try editting this to skip my one post/comment and see if that works well. But still open if others have other good solutions.

I ran a modified version of that script and it worked. AFAICT all my comments got edited out.

Alas, my comment history stopped at 869, which was mid May 2018. I checked from the website and that comment shows up as my first comment under the comments tab, which I know is wrong because I have older comments I made in some of my posts. My account is from Dec 2017.

Next, I'm going to re-run this script having delete most of my comments (except the handful I want to keep up to let folks know what's going on). Hopefully this will do the job and the older comments will start showing up.

I used redact.dev I wasn't interested in a backup but I believe that's an option.

I just used redact.dev to overwrite and delete 13 years worth of comments. I also manually deleted all of my posts. Kinda hurt me to do it but I think it's the right thing to do.

I feel the same... but now that it's done.... I'm okay with saying goodbye.

I got banned from r/news and talked down to by some mod shortly after editing all of my posts. The reason for the ban was protest bot. That took away any hard feelings I had about leaving reddit.

Is /news run by reddit admins or something? like what the heck?

[–] Rashnet@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought it might be an admin or a mod who really sides with them.
