Anyone who has spent time around boaters knows there are a lot of really, really dumb boat owners.

Yup...the lake my cottage is on has gone from quiet and peaceful, to a boat accident a month and people just being completely stupid and oblivious to other boats and hazards in the last 5 years or so. Covid era really made it worse.

I'm not positive but this looks like Lake Mead near Las Vegas. The water level is dropping so quickly that the boat ramp is only paved up to a point and then it is a temporary dirt and gravel path they've made down to the water because the water level drops so quickly they constantly have to reposition the boat ramp, mobile-docks, signs, etc.

I am thinking it's Shasta lake in northern California.

They're usually pretty dry too

If you search YouTube for boat ramp screw ups you’ll open a whole new world of hilarious videos for you.

I have a little fishing boat (2 person, 15hp motor). In the early mornings it's all fisherman who quickly and efficiently use the ramp and get clear. Around 11am the jetski's/speedboats show up and the fisherman go home. For about an hour the dock is really busy.

I have been stuck waiting for a guy who had a brand new $100K boat try and fail to launch it. I dropped anchor, grabbed some snacks, and laughed my ass off for 45 minutes. He finally gave up and left. By the time he left we had a crowd of around 10 fishing boats all cheering and laughing.

I love watching people reverse a trailer who don’t know how. They get themselves in quite the pickle and have to reset so many times. Boggles my mind how some people are spatially inept.

Its a skill you have to learn with practice. Once you get it, it's relatively easy to do.

If it was some teenagers or early 20's, I would have hopped out and talked then through it. Done that a few times.

However this was a 100K boat being towed by a jacked up pavement princess of a 3/4 ton truck driven by a guy who had to be in his 40's. So it was absolutely hilarious.

Thing is, he still could've asked (nicely) and I guarantee somebody would've helped him unless he was being an ass the whole time.

As people say, every sign has a history.

And then, at this point I think I'll believe on any story about how cars enter those ramps.

[–] PotjiePig@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Was gonna say. There's definitely a story here. Possibly a submerged Range Rover too.

It’s ok, I have an amphibious exploring vehicle, it has air intake valves
