And I thought watching all of One Piece was crazy.

For folks who have never seen it I like the episode with Sally Sparrow. Since you said re-watch... I m thinking of making a game of watching new who episodes and trying to spot the references, going back and watching the corresponding classic series. Mix it up a bit

You must ABSOLUTELY start with Series 1, Serial 4 - Marco Polo.

The show by that time has really found its footing. Without seeing that, none of the rest makes sense, so it’s not even worth bothering. Don’t settle for the audio or book versions, it’s video or nothing.

Oof - I'm quite happy with recons but for some that would be a tough call... :p

Also you'd miss out on the first Dalek adventure. It's not the best maybe but it's probably the story that saved the show and gave it mainstream appeal.

I am a big fan of 60s historicals though and Marco Polo is where the first TARDIS crew feel like a unit.

There’s a very particular reason I chose that specific serial.

I'm guessing scuba diving lessons are a prerequisite...?

More likely a Tardis given the current state of that serial.

You know, I've never thought about this until now. I have two thoughts related to the question.

  • Has anyone here watched the episodes in chronological order? https://www.stitchesinti.me/watch
  • Is it established fact that the airing order is chronological order on the Doctor's timeline (more or less)?

I've not watched them in chronological order... Of any sort in fact. I feel like I might try this though there's been so many blogs and books that have done this I could probably read them and pretend I did 😛

It's not established fact - nothing is. We could be watching edited highlights from the Matrix where The Doctor is deliberately making himself look good when in fact he's a complete tool. Assuming that isn't the case, I think it's fair to assume what we see on screen is chronological from The Doctor's point of view - the whole River Song thing would seem to confirm this for the new series at least. In 'Web of Fear' they mention seeing the younger Jack Travers from 'Abominable Snowmen' a few weeks ago for instance, one of several times characters refer back to previous events...

I mean my options as a fan growing up in the wilderness years was basically whatever I had on video/whatever I could borrow or copy off someone else.

And my options now as a father are quite limited to 'does it have Daleks/Cybermen in?' That said he watched Midnight recently. He thought it was really funny.
