Melbcat’s allergies are acting up and I’ve been letting her run around like a wild grub to avoid the sulks, but today is the day. She’s getting her face washed whether she likes it or not.
Gross cat ramblings
I gently sponged off as much of the eye and nose crusties as possible with warm water and cotton then wiped coconut oil on her dry cracked nose. She hated it but those were driving me nuts.
I also had noticed small abrasions from her scratching at her head, so I dabbed them with diluted betadine and applied numbing antibiotic ointment. Her back claws seem to still be trimmed but I need to check the front paws.
Checked her ears and they were just a bit waxy so I spared her the Otoflush. Couldn’t see black gunk to indicate mites?
Then I removed her collar to give her the flea and worm spot on a few days early. If there are any fleas or mites the Advocate should get them.
While that dries I’m transferring her tags to a fresh new collar bought for her upcoming birthday. It’s a classy pale pink but I don’t like it as much as I thought. The band is a bit thinner than the last one and combined with her new id tag arriving a bit larger than expected it could look a bit ridiculous. Especially on a large tall cat. It also lacks the light reflecting strip in the unlikely event she’s able to escape the house. But it’s well past due to replace the tatty old collar. Maybe I’ll use this one while I look at other ones.
I also need to think why she got like this. With a special diet it’s unlikely to be food allergies.
It could be chronic cat flu flaring up due to stress. It could be hayfever as I’ve been opening windows for airflow. It could be dust as I haven’t been up to regular vacuuming and dusting. I may have to seize a chance to hit up the bedroom with the stick when she’s in the kitchen eating.
She has been scratching since that one time I let her go out in the yard to calm down after the vet, perhaps it was the grass or a flea bit her causing all those great sensitised allergic reactions. The visiting cat does lie in the grass and scratch himself… and she does have tiny scabs.
She’s also asthmatic. Her breathing has been amazing for ages but she was snuffling and coughing the other night. I may have to add the Flixotide puffer back into her routine and give her some Ventolin on high pollen days.
